Job Summary

The Area Manager is responsible for identifying and implementing strategic initiatives and best practices for the design and construction of gas and electric work, so as to satisfy customers’ requests. Along with oversight for all current work activities, the Area Manager is a change Agent and leads strategic planning and prioritization for their assigned business area, through personal leadership and effective delegation. This position is responsible for continuous improvement efforts to ensure that the business unit’s key operating processes are executed with the quality required to achieve organizational goals. The Area Manager is also responsible for key support functions including financial results, contract management, health & safety, project management and other business unit performance practices, in coordination with other CO operating groups and other Business Units.



Job Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic plans and coordinates the prioritization of strategic initiatives across the operational unit and takes the lead in integrating system and process changes into business operations 
  • Responsible for the development and reinforcement of a culture of continuous improvement and quality management within the operational unit and is responsible for ensuring the consistent application of project management, process management and process improvement tools and the establishment of effective measures for key processes/ projects
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with union leadership to resolve issues and negotiate solutions in alignment with organizational goals and strategies
  • Select, develop and manage staff in an open environment that encourages employee safety, workforce diversity, engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Responsible for execution of Customer Field Operations’ health and safety programs to ensure safe performance of both company and contractor workforce
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, corporate policies and establish necessary work rules to maintain compliance and safety
  • Participates with GDAM and EDAM in the development of yearly work plans
  • Manages operational costs, including the completion of gas and electric work plans on schedule and within budget
  • Defines requirements and negotiates contracts to supplement the company’s construction work force with contractors
  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction during the execution of the work and by providing reliable service
  • Responsible for direct customer communication for escalated concerns
  • Leadership in Incident Command situations



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant technical discipline. In lieu of a degree, the candidate must have 7-10 years of previous managerial experience in construction, design or process management
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in construction, design or process management
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet company standards for driving
  • Candidates must be able to think strategically and demonstrate mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems
  • The successful candidate must have a proven track record of effectively managing projects while achieving customer satisfaction
  • Highly developed leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills are essential
  • Must be able to develop strong relationships with the other key stakeholders so as to effectively communicate the company’s performance goals, and the stakeholder’s role in achieving those goals

End Date: 05/18/2025 

Pay Range Minimum:  $134,555.72 

Pay Range Maximum:  $201,833.84 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
