We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking Utility Employee I 2011s in our Appleton, Bonduel, Marshfield, Rice Lake, and Lancaster locations.
Job Responsibilities
The Utility Employee 1-2011 performs the following duties:
- Inspects and repairs customer house piping and appliances.
- Installs, maintains and reads meters.
- Turns gas on/off .
- Investigates and repair gas leaks.
- Performs compliance surveys.
- Maintains vehicles and equipment.
- Inspects the work of contractors.
- Assembles, installs and maintains meter sets.
- Investigates high bill complaints.
- Assists with construction and repair work.
- Operates construction equipment.
- Locates mains and services.
- Maintains company buildings and grounds.
- Assists with Gate/Regulator and Valve maintenance and repair.
- May be required to perform welding duties once qualified.
- Miscellaneous duties as required or assigned.
Current Utility Employee 1 – 2011 and Utility Employee 1 applicants must be a Gas Distribution Journeyworker or must have Journeyworker status in accordance with the document “Existing L2150 work force and Journeyworker Cards” or meet the requirements as detailed in “L2150 GDA Letter Agreement”.
Minimum Experience Required
- Applicant must be a max-rated Utility Employee 2 and successfully complete the Utility Employee 1 field checklist and pass the Utility Employee 1 qualification exam. OR Applicant must be qualified in all of the Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks required of a maximum level rated Utility Employee 2, have three years of gas field experience, and must pass the Utility Employee 1 qualification exam.
- Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and meet the company’s requirements for driving.
- Applicant must obtain a valid Wisconsin commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 90 days of employment.
- The applicant must comply with DOT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Part 199 pipeline drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- The selected applicant must reside within 30 driving miles of their headquarters. or, if applicable, their crossroads location. In addition, employees in Customer Operations headquartered at a location that has an associated service territory may also reside within the applicable service territory. Selected employee will be required to relocate to meet this residency requirement within 9 months of the date of physical transfer for individuals qualified to take on-call or within 12 months for all others.
- Candidates may be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Gas Utility Program certificate/diploma from an accredited technical school
- Gas utility construction experience (i.e. locating, excavating, installing & repairing gas facilities, etc.)
- Other trade or technical experience (i.e. plumber, sprinkler fitter, electrician, etc.)
- Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred
Testing requirements
Gas Operations Test (GOT): DAT-Mechanical Reasoning- Ability to understand mechanic concepts. DAT-Space Relations-Ability to visualize forms in space. DAT-Numerical-Assessment designed to measure an individual's understanding of numerical relationships and facility in handling numerical concepts. PPM-Perceptual Reasoning-Measures your ability to rotate objects and assemble multiple objects in space.NEO-PI3-Personality measure. Suggested Preparation: Review of basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions, etc. There are no practice tests or brochures for this test.
Utility Employee I 2011 Structured Interview (UTIL-EMP):Competencies include: Building Customer Loyalty; Planning and Organizing; Safety Focus; Quality Orientation; Decision Making; Managing Work (including time management; and Communication Skills. Suggested Preparation: Review of the competencies and associated definitions (obtained from the posting or the HR Consultant listed on the posting). Practice answering questions about your experiences relating to the competencies.

Maximum Posting Range: $50.98
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
