WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Project Specialist 1 in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement with time spent in the office. 

This position is part of a job family (Project Specialist 1, Project Specialist 2, Project Specialist 3) where experience will be the determining factor.

Job Summary

This is an introductory position, the purpose of which is to provide direct support to, learn and develop a technical understanding of the regulated utilities in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, or a combination thereof -- including gas, electric, and steam. These responsibilities involve performing basic tasks that directly supporting other members of the State Regulatory Affairs Department. While serving in this role, individuals will be exposed to, and become proficient in dealing with a variety of state regulatory affairs issues including assembling, filing with the appropriate state Commission and supporting regulatory filings.



Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation of regulatory filings in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, or a combination thereof
  • Assembling and filing various state regulatory filings in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, or a combination thereof
  • Supporting and administratively coordinating various state regulatory proceedings in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota,or a combination thereof
  • Tracking and preparing reports of key milestones of key regulatory filings (large construction dockets, rate cases, etc.)for proceedings in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, or a combination thereof (e.g., Look-Ahead Reports)
  • Administering and facilitating timely responses for discovery received from Commission Staff and Intervening parties
  • Tracking and following up with business unit (BU) liaisons to ensure regulatory reporting and compliance requirements are met timely
  • Providing limited interpretation, where appropriate, on the application of the administrative rules affecting various business units
  • Attending regulatory meetings and summarize Commission decisions, distribute summaries, memorandums and documents from the meeting to Regulatory, Legislative, Legal, Financial employees who need to know details
  • Supporting load research activities, including downloading and performing preliminary analysis of associated data



Minimum Qualifications

  • Project Specialist 1: Bachelor’s degree required in Business/Economics/Mathematics/Engineering or related field.  In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a 2 year degree in Legal related area plus 2 years of related experience will be considered. Minimum of one year of professional experience in utility operations or related field preferred
  • Project Specialist 2: Bachelor’s degree required in Business/Economics/Mathematics/Engineering or related field.  In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a 2 year degree in Legal related area plus 5 years of related experience will be considered. Requires a minimum of three years of experience in utility operations or related field preferred with an emphasis in accounting or finance
  • Project Specialist 3: Bachelor’s degree require in Business/Economics/Mathematics/Engineering or related field.  In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a 2 year degree in Legal related area plus 8 years of related experience will be considered. Requires a minimum of five years of experience, with demonstrated expertise/experience in the specific area being sought i.e. regulatory construction, load research, forecasting, etc. Also required is experience negotiating complex technical issues
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to function as a team player, handle multiple assignment in a fast-paced environment, have strong initiative and have solid interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills
  • Proven ability to forge relationships internal and external to the organization
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro (or similar PDF creation software), SharePoint (or similar file management software)
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment as well as individually
  • Possess an understanding of finance and accounting principles is preferred

End Date: 04/30/2025 

Pay Range Minimum:  $66,898.00 

Pay Range Maximum:  $132,708.94 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
